1 medium yellow onion, diced
2 cloves of garlic, minced
4 tbsp of unsalted butter
1/4 cup of all-purpose flour
2 cups of vegetable broth
1 cup of heavy cream
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup of French fried onions
Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Green Beans – Start by washing and trimming the fresh green beans. If using frozen beans, thaw and drain well.
Step 2: Sauté the Aromatics – In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onions and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for another 5-7 minutes.
Step 3: Make the Creamy Sauce – Sprinkle the flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir. Gradually pour in the vegetable broth, whisking continuously. Cook for around 5 minutes until thickened. Stir in the heavy cream and half of the cheddar cheese, seasoning with salt and pepper.
Step 4: Combine with Green Beans – Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet, ensuring they are well-coated. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
Step 5: Add the Crunchy Topping – Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese and French fried onions on top.
Step 6: Bake to Perfection – Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes, until bubbling and golden. Allow resting before serving.
