Ingredients
Scale
2 medium oranges (preferably organic for better zest)
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
1/2 cup water
8 ounces dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa), chopped
1 tablespoon sea salt (for sprinkling)
Optional: 1 teaspoon orange extract for an extra citrus kick
Instructions
Start by washing the oranges thoroughly and slice them into about ¼-inch thick rounds, removing any seeds.
In a medium saucepan, combine 1 cup of granulated sugar and ½ cup of water over medium heat until dissolved. Add orange slices and simmer for about 45 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Remove slices from the pan and cool on a wire rack to dry and stickiness.
Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or microwave until smooth, stirring frequently.
Dip half of each cooled orange slice into the melted chocolate, placing them back on the wire rack. Sprinkle with sea salt while chocolate is still warm.
Chill in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate has fully set.
Notes
A delightful treat combining luscious dark chocolate and zesty orange slices, finished with a sparkly sprinkle of candied peel. Perfect for festive gatherings and homemade gifts!
