  • 12 tablespoons of water (for dough)

  • Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough forms a ball. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes for better texture.
  • In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the diced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and 1/2 cup caramel sauce. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender but not mushy. Set aside to cool.
  • After chilling the dough, roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a round cutter or a glass to cut the dough into circles of about 4-5 inches in diameter.
  • Place a tablespoon of the apple filling in the center of each dough circle. Drizzle a bit of caramel sauce over the filling for added sweetness. Fold the dough over to create a half-moon shape and pinch the edges to seal. Use a fork to crimp for additional sealing.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the empanadas on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with a beaten egg to achieve a golden-brown finish. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
