Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
1 cup packed light or dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon sea salt
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy—about 2-3 minutes.
Add eggs and vanilla: Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
Add the chocolate: Gently fold in the chocolate chips (and nuts if using) until evenly distributed.
Form the cookies: Scoop large portions of dough, about 3 tablespoons each, onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Bake: Pop the cookies into the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes. They may look slightly underbaked in the center.
Cool and enjoy: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
